Without sales, your business cannot exist for very long. </p> <p>All sales begin with some form of advertising. To build sales, advertising must be seen or heard by potential buyers, and then cause them to react in some way. This is why the structure of the Ad is so critical. </p> <p>The credit for the success or the failure of an advertising campaign will always revert back to the ad itself. The absolute Bottom Line in any ad is really simple...the reader must buy your product or service. </p> <p>Any ad that causes the reader to only pause in their thinking, to just admire the product, or to simply believe what s written about the product, is not doing its complete job. </p> <p>When you write your ad, you want the prospective customer to do one of the following: </p> <blockquote> <p>1. Visit your establishment to see and judge the product. </p> <p>2. Immediately write a check and send for the merchandise. </p> <p>3. Phone for an appointment to hear the full sales presentation. </p> <p>4. Write for further information. </p> </blockquote> <p>Take a look in your local newspaper at the ads and tell me if any of them accomplish the above. </p> <p>Very few do, and to me they are image-advertising versus direct-response ads.</p> <p> Any ad that does not elicit the desired action is an absolute waste of time and money. </p> <p>There are many formulas about how to accomplish the above. A very brief one is a formula known as AIDA...</p> <ul> <li> Attract the ATTENTION of your prospect. </li> <li>Develop the INTEREST of your prospect in the product. </li> <li>Create new DESIRE for the product. </li> <li>Demand an ACTION from the prospect. </li> </ul> <p>Never forget the basic rule of writing ads...  if the ad isn t read, it won t stimulate any sales. If it isn t seen, it can t be read. If it doesn t grab the attention of the reader, it won t be seen. </p> <p>Successful ad writers know these fundamentals completely. Whether you know them already, or you re just now being exposed to them, your knowledge and practice of these basics will determine your future success as an advertising copywriter. </p> <p>Well, that s it for this weeks tip.
